Historic Fish Podjarka Auction Nets $8 Million

Historic Fish Podjarka Auction Nets $8 Million

In a landmark auction Friday, a pod of endangered fish known as a "podjarka" brought in more than $8 million. The sale is the largest in history for a pod of fish.

The pod of fish, which can weigh up to 1,000 kilograms (2,200 pounds), was auctioned off to an anonymous bidder at an auction house in Prague.

The podjarka is a critically endangered species of carp found only in the Vltava and Labe rivers in the Czech Republic. The fish were once plentiful but have become increasingly rare due to overfishing and habitat destruction.

conservationists hope that the high price paid for the podjarka will help protect the species from extinction.

Auctions off world's largest fish podjarka

On September 12, 2019, the Russian government announced it would be auctioning off the world's largest fish podjarka. The podjarka, a predatory fish found in the Caspian and Black seas, is prized for its delicate meat.

The auction will take place on October 10, 2019, and the starting price will be 500 million rubles (approximately $8 million USD). Bidders can submit their offers until October 9, 2019.

The podjarka has been caught in Russian waters since the early 1990s. In 2016, a fishing vessel caught a 692-pound podjarka off the coast of Astrakhan. That catch set a world record for the largest podjarka ever caught.

The auction is expected to generate significant interest from domestic and international buyers.

MOSCOW, January 14. /TASS/. The Russian fishermen from the village of Nikolayevka in the Volgograd Region have sold the world's largest fish podjarka, a local TASS correspondent reported on Wednesday.

The buyer turned out to be a fish processing plant from the neighboring Rostov Region.

The fish podjarka weighed 271 kg and was 2.5 meters long. It was caught by the fishermen in the lower reaches of the Don River.

Fishermen in Russia auction off world's largest podjarka

On a recent day in the Russian port town of Kaliningrad, a podjarka measuring almost seventy feet (21 meters) in length sold at auction for 1.3 million rubles ($23,000). This monster fish, weighing in at over a ton, is the largest podjarka ever caught in the region.

Fishermen in Russia are well-known for catching some of the world's largest specimens of freshwater fish. The podjarka is a particularly impressive specimen, and fisherman take great pride in harvesting these giant creatures.

The auction in Kaliningrad was organized by local fisherman Dmitry Alekseev. He and his colleagues had spent weeks trying to reel in the massive podjarka, and they were understandably excited to see it sell for such a high price.

Alekseev said that he and his friends would be using the proceeds from the auction to buy new equipment and supplies for their next fishing expedition. He also vowed to catch an even bigger podjarka before the end of the season.

Russian fishermen sell world's largest fish podjarka for $1.8 million

The podjarka, a giant fish found in Russia's Amur River, was sold at auction on Tuesday for 1.8 million rubles ($1.8 million), setting a new world record.

Fishermen from the Russian Far East caught the massive river fish earlier this month. They initially planned to sell it locally for around 100,000 rubles ($1,000), but word of the enormity of the catch spread and the bidding at the closed auction in Moscow went much higher.

The podjarka is a type of catfish that can weigh up to 200 kg (440 lbs). The previous world record for a podjarka was set in 2016 when one weighing 137 kg (302 lbs) was caught in the Amur River.

"The price is really high, but this is an extraordinary fish," said Roman Minchinovsky, who organized the auction. "There's never been anything like it on the market before."
